The University of Cambridge has launched the curriculum for MSt in AI Ethics and Society, aiming to train leaders who can profoundly understand and address the ethical and societal challenges posed by AI. This curriculum covers critical issues such as privacy, surveillance, fairness, equity, algorithmic bias, misinformation, big data, and responsible innovation. Collaboratively developed by the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence and the Institute of Continuing Education at the university, the curriculum pools expertise from multiple disciplines, including philosophy, machine learning, computer science, policy, and law. It received the 2022 CogX Award for “Best Course in AI.” Key features of the curriculum include its interdisciplinary methodology and its emphasis on ethical considerations, specialized skills, and real-world applications. The courses span  technology, philosophy, law, and social sciences, providing students with an extensive and thorough understanding of the subject matter. This equips them to effectively recognize, analyze, and tackle the ethical and societal challenges associated with the rapid progression of AI today. The curriculum encourages students to integrate theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. Through a combination of faceto-face instruction, case studies, seminars, thesis workshops, and practical exercises, students will gain a deeper understanding of the ethical and societal challenges associated with AI and learn to apply interdisciplinary theories and methods to address these challenges. This educational model aims not only to sharpen their critical thinking but also cultivate their innovation abilities and leadership skills.
